Widely considered one of the best in the world and beloved of chefs, Voatsiferypery is a rare and special species of pepper endemic to the island of Madagascar. Collected from wild plants for the last decade, its harvest was unsustainable as collectors destroyed the vine on which is was grown, and would even fell trees to get it. That changed when the wild pepper was domesticated by Olivier Ramaherison, an enthusiastic Malagasy grower in the central highlands.
